Gunn junior Cadence Lee won her third straight title at the Girls' Central Coast Section Wrestling Championships, going 3-0 with three pins during the two-day event that concluded Saturday at Oak Grove High in San Jose.

Lee finished off her impressive performance in the 103-pound division by pinning Kayla Walker of Leland in just 55 seconds in the title match -- a rematch of last year's finale -- while earning another trip to the girls' state championships.

Lee won her semifinal match with a pin in 2:29 and took her quarterfinal with a pin in 1:40. She finished with 28 individual points.

"I'm overall satisfied with how I wrestled, but I'm looking forward to improving some things in both State and the upcoming boy's league (finals)," said Lee. "I think I was just much more prepared and warmed up for my finals match thanks to one of my teammates who drove over to help me. I'll be going into the state tournament with confidence, but I'll make sure it doesn't negatively affect my wrestling."

At 138 pounds, Gunn's Jessica Sun lost in the finals by a pin. She reached the title match with a pair of pins.

Gunn's Grace Robinson finished third at 118 pounds by pinning Natalie Ruiz of Terra Nova in 41 seconds to help the Titans finish fourth in the team race with 76 points. Scotts Valley won with 109 points.

"We only had four athletes on our team, which is small compared to the other top girls' programs," said Gunn coach Chris Horpel. "Even still, all four wrestlers contributed by winning matches and three qualified for the state championships."

Lee will be joined by Sun and Robinson at the state championships at Lemoore High School in two weeks. Teammate Zee Peng (126 pounds) did not place, but scored six points with a second-round pin.

Girls' basketball
Castilleja ended a 16-game losing streak by romping to a 68-43 win over International (San Francisco) in the annual Bentley Shootout in the East Bay on Saturday.

The Gators (4-18) got a career-high 20 points and 18 rebounds from 6-foot-2 Yasmeen Afifi, her 10th career double-double. Afifi also had three blocks. Olivia Nicholls added a season-high 21 points while Paige Vermeer had five points, a career-high eight assists and eight steals. The latter gives her 101 steals this season, breaking the school single-season record of 98.

Also in the Bentley Shootout, Pinewood won its fourth game of the week with a 56-29 drubbing of St. Joseph-Notre Dame. The Panthers (18-4), who have won 11 of their past 12 games, got 12 points and 12 rebounds from freshman Chloe Eackles. She also had three assists and two steals.

Junior Leeana Bade and sophomore Gabi Bade each had 11 points, with Leeana contributing 10 rebounds.

The Panthers will visit Eastside Prep on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) to decide the regular-season title in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division). Both co-leaders already have earned first-round byes in the WBAL playoffs.

Girls' soccer
Pinewood tuned up for Tuesday's showdown for the WBAL Skyline Division title by blanking visiting Summit Prep, 5-0.

The Panthers (9-0-1, 11-3-2) got two goals from freshman Olivia Biggs and one goal each from junior Courtney Copriviza, freshman Amrita Mecker and sophomore Nicole Colonna. Gretchen Olsen added two assists.

Pinewood, which picked up a forfeit against Latino Prep for a scheduled match on Feb. 9 (Latino Prep can't field a team), will face host Mercy-Burlingame on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) at Skyline College to most likely decide the regular-season title.

The Skyline champ will face the Foothill Division's fourth-place team in a playoff to decide the league's final Central Coast Section berth.

In San Jose, Sacred Heart Prep (7-4-5) stretched its winless streak to six matches with a 3-0 nonleague loss to host Valley Christian.
