The second-ranked Stanford women's swimming and diving team honored its seniors in the best way possible -- beating top-ranked USC, 158-137, in a Pac-12 Conference meet Saturday.

Maddy Schaefer and Felicia Lee each won two individual events at Avery Aquatic Center as the Cardinal (7-1) won its fifth straight.

Stanford completes the regular season in two weeks with a meet at California on Feb. 16.

"From the senior ceremonies to the end of the meet, we had two goals," Stanford coach Greg Meehan said. "First, and most importantly, to honor our seniors. And we did that with a really great ceremony. Our second goal was to give ourselvess a chance to win the meet. And we did that."

Palo Alto High grad Jasmine Tosky returned to Stanford for the first time as part of the USC team. She recorded a pair of third-place finishes and swam on both 'A' relay teams.

Senior Andi Murez anchored the Cardinal to a win and pool record in the 400 medley relay to spark the victory. Schaefer, Sarah Haase and Lee joined Murez to finish in 3:36.22.

"We were able to win because of a lot of things that our senior class did," Meehan said. "It was a very meaningful win for our team and our senior class. We wanted to be better than we were last week, and we were."

Lee later reset her own pool record in the 100 back with a 52.90, sliding under her 52.99 recorded one day prior in Stanford's win over UCLA. Annemarie Thayer took second in 54.02.

Lee also won the 100 fly in 53.23, with Tosky finishing third.

USC's Haley Anderson (9:53.52) was successful in winning the 1,000 free with Andie Taylor (9:55.07) and Allison Brown (10:03.97) picking up second- and third-place points for the Cardinal.

Taylor went on to win the 200 fly (1:58.39) and was third in the 500 free (4:50.44).

Murez (1:47.06) was golden in the 200 free with Haase (1:00.64) finishing first ahead of USC's Kasey Carlson (1:00.91) and teammate Katie Olsen (1:01.38) to win the 100 breast.

Schaefer (22.48) won the 50 free by one second and change. Gunn High grad Julia Ama (23.58) and Alex Whitford (23.85) were third and fourth, respectively.

Schaefer (49.00) double-dipped with a win in the 100 free as Murez (49.25) took second.

Maya DiRado streamed to a 200 back victory in 1:56.01 and Stanford produced a 1-2-3 finish to help secure the win as Megan Fischer-Colbrie (1:56.76) and Thayer (1:58.04) rolled in behind DiRado.

Olsen (2:11.73) took first in the 200 breast with fellow freshman Haase (2:13.07) touching third.

Sloane Brazina (285.08) and Stephanie Phipps (284.25) finished behind USC's Haley Ishimatsu (301.88) in the 1-meter event. Phipps (314.63) edged Ishimatsu (313.95) to win the 3-meter edition.

DiRado's 4:11.12 was the fastest among the 400 individual medley field, as was Stanford's 1:31.22 in the 200 free relay.

Women's water polo
Top-ranked Stanford beat No. 8 San Jose State, 15-4, Saturday at Avery Aquatic Center as part of the Stanford Invitational.

The Cardinal (6-0) meets UC Davis at 8 a.m. Sunday with a chance to move into the title game and a shot its fourth straight crown at its home tournament.

Stanford also defeated The Olympic Club in exhibition action Saturday morning, claiming a 9-5 decision over the squad that included former Stanford standouts four-time Olympian Brenda Villa and Monica Coughlan.

Two-meter Melissa Seidemann and freshman driver Anna Yelizarova scored five goals apiece in the win over the Spartans, while Kiley Neushul posted a hat trick and Kaley Dodson and Maggie Steffens each added a goal.

Senior goalie Kate Baldoni got the start and went the distance, stopping six shots.

In the morning exhibition, Dodson, Yelizarova and freshman Gurpreet Sohi each scored twice with Neushul, Seidemann and Kaitlyn Lo adding goals.

Goalies Emily Dorst and Gabby Stone split the contest, with Dorst making a pair of saves and Stone stopping six shots.

Track and field
Stanford junior Michael Atchoo was named Outstanding Performer of the Armory Collegiate Invitational indoor track and field meet on Saturday after completing a winning mile-distance medley relay double.

Atchoo edged teammate Tyler Stutzman to win the championship mile in 4:02.38 on the 200-meter banked Mondo track at the historic Fort Washington Avenue Armory in uptown Manhattan.

On Friday night, Atchoo rallied Stanford to victory in the DMR with a 3:58.7 anchor leg over 1,600 meters.

"This is just a stepping stone," Atchoo told flotrack.org. "I'm just trying to compete hard. I'm not trying to run too fast right now. I'm just trying to win races. That's what it's about right now."

Stutzman, the leadoff leg on the DMR team, led much of the mile and clocked 4:02.52 to help highlight performances from Cardinal middle-distance runners.

Among the Cardinal women, freshman Amy Weissenbach made her collegiate debut in her main event, the 800 meters, and ran the third-fastest indoor time in school history, placing second in 2:06.72. Georgetown's Chelsea Cox won in 2:06.51.

Weissenbach came to Stanford with impressive credentials, as the National High School Federation recordholder in the 800 (2:02.04) and three-time California state champion while at Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City.

Lost in the news of the weekend was Weissenbach's 1,200 leadoff leg on Stanford's fourth-place DMR on Friday night. Her split of 3:20.3 (according to Track and Field News) is one of the most impressive performances in the nation this season.

Men's volleyball
Steven Irvin had 22 kills, but was unable to prevent No. 3 Stanford from losing to Hawai'i, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 27-25, 15-11, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action before 3,316 at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday night n Honolulu.

Stanford (7-3 overall, 4-3 MPSF) had two match points in the fourth set, only for Hawai'i (4-7, 3-5) to fight off the Cardinal and use that momentum to bolt to a quick 4-1 lead in the fifth set that the Warriors would not relinquish.

One night after a hitting a career-high 27 kills, Irvin followed with another big night, hitting .372 and totaling 13 digs. Brian Cook had 16 kills, and setter James Shaw had 47 assists and 12 digs. However, the Cardinal hit a season-low .203 in the loss.

Stanford next plays host to UC Irvine on Friday at Burnham Pavilion at 7 p.m.

Wrestling
Stanford freshman Jim Wilson went undefeated to capture the 174- pound title at the California Collegiate Open, hosted by San Francisco State. Four more Cardinal wrestlers finished in the top six of the open tournament.

Wilson, who wrestled at 174 pounds for the first time this season, improved to 15-3 overall with an overtime win in the title bout. The championship was his second of the season as he also took home the Roadrunner Open title at 165 pounds in early November. He finished sixth at the Reno Tournament of Champions in mid-December.

True freshman Josh Marchok was the runner-up at 285 pounds with a 3-1 record. Marchok improved to 8-7 overall this season, falling to Cal Baptist's Zach Merrill, 9-0, in the title bout.

Another Cardinal rookie, Peter Galli, claimed third place for Stanford at 157 pounds. Galli was 4-1 on the day, pushing his season record to 7-5. He registered his first fall of the season over Jordan Henrickson of Oregon State in 2:18 in the third-place match.

Stanford's Dylan Morris and Brendan Ter Wee finished tied for sixth place at 174 and 285 pounds, respectively.
