In the end, senior Joslyn Tinkle can shake off an odd sequence of events that led to her being assessed a technical foul just before halftime for, as one broadcaster suggested, "breathing too hard."

The fourth-ranked Stanford women's basketball team shook off an uninspired first half to roar past host Oregon, 86-62, Friday night in a Pac-12 Conference contest.

The Cardinal (8-1 in the Pac-12, 19-2 overall) remain tied for first in the conference heading into Sunday's 2 p.m. game at Oregon State.

Tinkle, with 16 points, was one of three players to reach double figures. Chiney Ogwumike had 22 points to go with 13 rebounds and James added 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers as Stanford went 10 for 27 from long range.

"We knew we could some 3-pointers so we came out shooting," James said. "We weren't too happy with the way we played in the first half and that was the subject at halftime. We came out and played much better, more consistently, in the second half."

Stanford won its fifth straight and improved to 10-0 on the road this year, handing coach Tara VanDerveer her 400th career win in Pac-12 play.

Ogwumike recorded her 16th double-double of the season, and her fifth in a row. She's reached double figures in scoring in all 21 games, including 16 games in which she scored at least 20 points.

Amber Orrange recorded nine assists, all in the first half, one shy of her career high. Tinkle was the main beneficiary as she led all scorers with 14 in the first half.

Tinkle must still be mystified by the technical foul, which she picked up after a scuffle for a loose ball. The KZSU microphone caught the official explaining to VanDerveer that Tinkle was being too aggressive.

It was odd timing, coming moments after Oregon coach Paul Westphal was whistled for a technical for an excessive display of disagreement.

The Cardinal, which had 25 assists on 32 field goals, improved to 46-8 overall against the Ducks.
