Ellen Tsay secured the victory at the No. 4 spot, breezing past Ellie Edles 6-0, 6-2.

Also collecting wins in the opener were Krista Hardebeck, the highly-touted rookie currently ranked No. 2 in the country, and Nicole Gibbs, the reigning NCAA singles and doubles champion.
