Boy suffers serious head injury following assault on Latham Street

Bookmark and Share
A teenager riding his bicycle in Mountain View on Monday night was seriously injured when an assailant struck him in the head, police said Tuesday.

Police said the victim, a 17-year-old from Mountain View, was riding his bike with a friend in the 2000 block of Latham Street around 8:40 p.m. when an unidentified male emerged from a hidden location and hit him in the head with an object.

The attacker then fled, running toward Rengstorff Avenue, and remains at large.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for a serious head injury, police said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Mountain View police at 650-903-6344.

Were they trying to steal his bicycle?

What time of the night was it? Maybe a better description of the area of the street would help to avoid it. Thanks.

This scares me a little as our teens have been taught to be independent and I don't want to take that away from them. Is there any thoughts that this might be gang related? Was anything stolen? Could the teen have known the attacker? Did the friend see anything?

I would like to know more about this, please.

Sounds like he was targeted. Latham St area hosts much of the cities gang activity. I'm betting revenge attack or gang related.

As a Latham resident I can assure you that your comment about "Latham St hosts much of the cities gan activity" is completely incorrect. I agree that parts of Latham, usually from Escuela to Walmart, are prone to thefts, I have never heard of "Gang Actifity."

I think this happened on the 2000 Block of Latham Street.

This happened to my son, in front of our house, back when we lived in Fremont. My son was all of four years old!!!! That is why we moved here. Never thought such a thing would happen in Mtn View.

And yes, they stole my son's little bitty BMX bike!
