Mother and child injured in Menlo Park shooting
Drive-by took place after altercation, police say

A mother and toddler were shot and injured in Menlo Park Saturday evening, Jan. 26, in a possible gang-related drive-by shooting, according to police.
Menlo Park police received numerous reports of shots being fired on Willow Road and Bayfront Expressway around 7:45 p.m., according to Commander Dave Bertini.
As officers reached the scene, however, they learned that the shooting victims were located in a car at the East Palo Alto McDonalds parking lot at Bay Road and University Avenue.
One victim, a 2-year-old boy, had been shot in the legs and had a grazing wound to his head. His 24-year-old mother, who had been holding him on her lap, also had been shot in the legs.
Four other adults were in the car but were uninjured.
The mother and boy were taken to Stanford Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police determined that the victims' vehicle had been on Willow Road when its occupants got into a dispute with two Hispanic men in another car.
The passenger in that car, described only as a four-door, green or dark green, 2000s model Honda sedan, allegedly stuck a handgun out the window as the cars reached Bayfront and fired at least 10 times, striking the rear driver's side and the two victims, Bertini said.
The Honda was last seen heading toward the Dumbarton Bridge.
Bertini said the incident was being investigated as potentially gang-related, but investigators were not entirely certain of that yet.
A second, fatal shooting was reported in East Palo Alto on Capitol Avenue around 9 p.m., a short distance from the Menlo Park shooting, but Bertini said it appears to have been unrelated.
Menlo Park police are asking that anyone with information about this case contact the department at 650-330-6300 or anonymously through the tip line at 650-330-6395 and refer to case number 13-0264.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? Posted by Let's just tell the truth..., a resident of East Palo Alto, on Jan 28, 2013 at 11:19 pm Come on people another shooting involving little kids. Honestly its just really sad how this violence continues. It breaks my heart to read another story like this one.
If anyone from EPA is reading my comment we need to stop this non sense. Together we can make a difference. Organizing neighbor watch groups. You watch my back I watch yours. We have this going on on our street and it works. It doesnt cost money just time to care about your neighbor and the activity going on. It only takes a minute to recognize a suspicious vehicle or person on your street. We have to take action in our hands. And of course we need the support from our police dept. to reinforce the action needed.
In my opinion replacing the whole force would bring change. Our current officers dont show that they care or sympathize with anything when you call for help... so like any other job they can be replaced in a heart beat along with the Chief.
Dear Mayor hear our demands!! We need a huge change in our police dept since yesterday!! If not the violence will continue. Bring in mindsets that are new & fresh...police officers who dont bully our residents.
Stand up and let your voice be heard! Join me in taking time to write to our mayor demanding change NOW before your child and/or loved one story is posted here as a victim of yet another shooting.
