The Palo Alto girls' soccer team continued its offensive fireworks with a 6-1 victory over visiting Milpitas on Wednesday in SCVAL El Camino Division action.

The Vikings (4-0-1, 5-4-2) won their fourth straight and now have 20 goals in their past three matches.

Paly scored early and often against the Trojans as Katie Foug took a pass from Sunny Lyu and scored in the third minutes. In the next nine minutes, Paly's Nina Kelty scored twice, one on an assist from Heidi Moeser.

With five minutes left in the half, Paly's Megan Tall initiated play by crossing to Foug, who fed a pass to Lyu for another goal and 4-0 lead. In the second half, Aoi Sugihara scored for a 5-1 lead and Moeser made it 6-1 eight minutes later.

Jacey Pederson, Julia Kwasnick, Katherine Maniscalco and Aida Goma-Petit provided solid defense for the Vikings.

In the SCVAL De Anza Division, Gunn remained winless in league action following a 1-0 loss to visiting Los Altos on Wednesday night. The Titans fell to 0-5 in the division (1-7-2 overall) while the Eagles improved to 4-0-1 in league (6-1-2 overall).

In the PAL Bay Division, Menlo-Atherton moved back into the thick of the league race with a 3-1 victory over visiting Terra Nova on Wednesday. The Bears (2-2, 4-3-3) got two goals from senior Elizabeth Cruz and one from freshman Talia Missan.

Menlo School and Sacred Heart Prep remained tied for first place in the West Bay Athletic League with victories on Wednesday.

In Los Altos Hills, Menlo (4-0, 7-2-1) handed host Pinewood a 3-0 defeat.

Ryan Karle provided the eventual winning goal in the 10th minute after taking a pass from fellow senior Max Parker, dribbling past the keeper and finishing.

The rest of the half was fairly even as Pinewood created a few dangerous chances off set pieces. Menlo had chances of their own but were unable to put the game out of reach with a goal being called back for offsides.

In the 64th minute, Karle set up Parker for a score and 2-0 lead. Junior Jordan Vasquez added a third goal in the 70th minute when he controlled a loose ball in the penalty box.

Senior goalie Timmy Costa earned his sixth shutout of the season with another strong performance in net.

Elsewhere in the WBAL, host Priory (0-3-1 league) played to a 2-2 deadlock with King's Academy (1-2-1).

In Atherton, Sacred Heart Prep (4-0, 7-2-1) found itself in a battle with visiting Eastside Prep, but finally broke through in the 72nd minute on a goal by Andrew Segre off an assist from Nick Salzman to post a 1-0 victory.

In the SCVAL De Anza Division, Elyas Daadi scored in the 18th minute off an assist from Stefan Jensen and goalie Boot Bullwinkle made it stand up with his third shutout in five division matches as Gunn posted a 1-0 victory over host Los Altos. The Titans improved to 2-2-1 in league (4-6-2 overall).

In the SCVAL El Camino Division, Palo Alto battled back from a 1-0 first-half deficit with a goal by Chris Meredith in the second half, off an assist from Cina Vazir, as the Vikings settled for a 1-1 deadlock with host Milpitas.

Paly had chances in the first half, including a shot by Preston Kuppe that deflected off the far post. The Vikings also had a handful of scoring opportunities in the second half, but couldn't convert.

Milpitas had one final opportunity on a direct kick from 35 yards out with just seconds remaining, but Paly keeper Tony Maharaj made a nice save by leaping above the Milpitas forwards to end the game.

The tie was costly for the Vikings (3-1-1, 7-3-2), who remain a point behind the second-place Trojans while unbeaten Fremont stays atop the division. Paly can only hope that it gets some help from Milpitas, which plays Fremont on Friday.
