Stanford senior Eddie Penev was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Penev helped lead No. 3 Stanford to a season opening 425.000-411.150 victory at No. 6 California with first-place finishes in the floor (15.650) and all-around (85.200) events. The five-time All-American currently ranks first in the nation in both events.

Penev also recorded second and third-place finishes on parallel bars (14.700) and high bar (13.850), respectively.

Stanford's team score of 425.000 was the second highest team score in the NCAA on the season.

Men's basketball
Pinewood School grad Solomone Wolfgramm scored nine points in nine minutes and grabbed three rebounds with one block during BYU-Hawaii's 80-75 loss to host Dominican in San Rafael on Monday night. Wolfgramm is a freshman for BYU-Hawaii.

Water polo
Sacred Heart Prep grad Stephanie Clements is one of three players selected as captains of the Santa Clara University women's team for the 2013 season.

Clements, one of seven seniors on the team, started all 36 matches last season as the Broncos' goalie. She led the team with 210 blocks and added 24 steals and six assists.

At Sacred Heart Prep, she helped the Gators win CCS titles in 2007 and '08.
