Menlo College hoop teams dealing with streaks

Bookmark and Share
The Menlo College women's basketball team will be looking to keep its Cal Pac Conference winning streak intact while the Menlo men hope to start one when both play host to Cal Maritime on Thursday in Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

The Menlo women will put their 2-0 conference mark on the line in their conference home opener while hoping to improve upon their 15-3 overall mark. Tip off is 5:30 p.m.

The Menlo men (0-2, 4-13) will be looking for their first Cal Pac victory starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Oaks turned a quick start into an easy conference win in a 59-45 triumph over host William Jessup in Rocklin on Saturday.

Menlo's stingy defense held the Warriors to only 12 first-half points as Jessup (1-1, 8-11) connected on just four first-half field goals, going 4-of-29 from the floor over the first 20 minutes. Menlo continued that trend in the second half with the Oaks holding the Warriors to just 26 percent shooting for the game.

Menlo's Jolise Limcaco led the charge on offense as the sophomore finished with a game-high 16 points. Limcaco turned it on in the second half with 11 points while helping lead an Oaks' offense that shot an impressive 57.7 percent from the field after intermission.

Menlo's ability to control the boards served as a crucial factor in the win, as well, with the Oaks racking up as many rebounds (45) as Jessup had points. Four Menlo players had at least six boards, led by sophomore Laurel Donnenwirth's 11.

Menlo's senior tandem of Carly Tristao and Lauren Adamek combined for 19 rebounds, as well, with the pair also responsible for 17 points.

Later Saturday evening, the Menlo men dropped their second straight to kick off the Cal Pac season, as Menlo fell, 76-68, at William Jessup.

Deadlocked at 44 midway through the second period, the Warriors (2-0, 3-14) took the lead on a Ben Chung bucket with 11:15 remaining, and held the advantage for the rest of the tilt.

Charles Barnes scored 18 points to lead Menlo while ChaRunn Jones added 15, John Smith 12 and Keith Bowman 10.
