 | The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center will hold its sixth annual Mitzvah Day on Monday, Jan. 21, to commemorate both the Jewish spirit of doing a "mitzvah" (good deed) and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Palo Alto nonprofit organization is inviting volunteers to participate in a day of community service and choose from more than 25 different hands-on projects that will take place at the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life at 3921 Fabian Way and other Bay Area locations. Participants will work in small groups on projects addressing poverty, hunger, housing and homelessness, aging and the environment.
New projects this year include cleaning up the Palo Alto Baylands and working with 10 Books A Home, a nonprofit organization that provides books and bookshelves to underserved children.
The goal of the event, according to Luba Palant, event manager at the Jewish Community Center, is to teach kids and families to enjoy volunteering, encourage them to make their contribution an annual tradition and showcase local nonprofit partners.
Last year, the event attracted more than 800 volunteers of all ages, coming from as far as Santa Cruz and the East Bay.
For more information and to register, please visit www.paloaltojcc.org/mitzvah or contact Luba Palant at lpalant@paloaltojcc.org. Advance online registration is required. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

I understand they may have been needed for a grand opening but its time to remove them please.
Thanks.

Posted by Not an issue, a resident of the Community Center neighborhood, on Jan 10, 2013 at 4:27 pm Gus, get over it. The banners stay. Time to find another issue to whine about. Funny how we hear constant complaints about the JCC, but other advertisements are fine

No comments here yet about the article itself. Maybe I'll head on down a week from Monday and see what kind of Baylands clean-up projects they have in mind.

Baylands clean-up and several other activities are already fully subscribed. Never thought I'd see a case of too many volunteers. Looks like a sign of excellent leadership.
