The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (JPB), which owns and operates Caltrain, unanimously elected Santa Clara County Supervisor Ken Yeager as board chair Thursday, Jan. 3. Yeager represents the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority on the JBP. This is the second time that he has held the position, according to a Caltrain announcement.

Tom Nolan, chair of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency board of directors, was elected vice chair. Nolan was the founding chairman of the Joint Powers Board and was instrumental in creating the JPB and acquiring Caltrain in 1995.

The board also reviewed Caltrain performance statistics for the month of November. Average weekday ridership increased 12 percent over the previous year at 47,326, with an additional 5,061 riders. The number of trains arriving on time also rose from 83 percent in October to 91 percent in November, according to Caltrain.

The increase in ridership brought a corresponding increase in revenue of $3,969,762 -- 15.6 percent more than budgeted while expenses dropped 3.5 percent for the month, Caltrain noted.

The board meets the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at 1250 San Carlos Ave., San Carlos, two blocks from the train station. The meetings are open to the public.
