Stanford and Wisconsin are each playing in their 24th bowl game and their records are similar. Stanford brings a 10-12-1 mark in its previous 23 appearances; Wisconsin is 11-12.
The 24 appearances are tied for 37th most (also Maryland and Syracuse) in NCAA history.
The Badgers have nine seniors, fourth fewest in the nation. Should they win, those seniors would record the winningest record of any senior class from Wisconsin.
Stanford has one player from Wisconsin in senior defensive end Ben Gardner from Homestead High in Mequon) and Wisconsin has two players from California in freshmen quarterbacks Bart Houston from De La Salle and Chase Knox from San Diego's Madison.
Stanford held nine of 13 opponents to 17 points or less, while Wisconsin did it eight times.
The Cardinal allowed an average of 11.8 points per game in road/neutral games, second lowest to Notre Dame (8.0).
The Badgers turned the ball over 11 times, fourth fewest in the nation. There were 26 combined turnovers in Wisconsin games, the fewest in the country.
The Stanford sports information folks (Mike Eubanks, David Kiefer, Alan Craig) came with a tidbit regarding Stanford's Stepfan Taylor and Wisconsin's Montee Ball. The two running backs have combined for 9,252 career rushing yards, or 5.25 miles.
That's the most combined yardage in Rose Bowl Game history. Ball and Oregon's LaMichael James combined for a then record 8,069 yards last year.
Rain has been a major factor just four times in the Rose Bowl, and none since 1955. The coldest recorded game was in 1919, when temperatures never got over 25 degrees.
There have been 3,629 points scored in the 98 previous Rose Bowl games. The last shutout occurred when Washington beat Iowa, 28-0, in 1982.
