East Palo Alto to New Year revelers: 'Use a gun, go to jail'
City plans zero tolerance for gunshots and fireworks tonight

Celebratory gunfire is getting a serious crackdown in East Palo Alto, where police plan to more than triple the number of officers on city streets on New Year's Eve, the department announced.
The East Palo Alto Police Department sent out notices to residents where the city's ShotSpotter gunfire-detection system has spotted illegal gunfire at or near a residence. ShotSpotter pinpoints gunshots within seconds so that police can locate and respond to the crime.
"Discharging any firearm in public -- even celebratory gunfire -- is a felony and carries a sentence of up to 3 years in prison. That time is dramatically increased if the gunfire results in injury or death," Chief Ronald Davis wrote in the notice.
Officers will be assigned to specific areas of the city that had the highest levels of gunshots and fireworks recorded last New Year's Eve.
The department will also enforce the illegal fireworks ordinance and the 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for minors. Officers will also be on the lookout for drunk drivers and those who might seek opportunities to commit crimes, the department said.

East Palo Alto is all of 2.5 square miles in size (that's a square 1.23 miles on a side). So, deploying any kind of technology "city-wide" would not be a very hard task.
Wonder if there is a pool somewhere about the number of people the EPA police will NOT arrest for use of guns over the New Year's Eve?

We got notices?? Really then my home must have missed?!? No Chief it's just another lie to the media thats all.
It's midnight and the shots don't stop. Im sure not going to waste my time again. Well I'm just not in the mood to get attitude from our 911 dispatchers who "care" when they see a call from EPA. I also wouldnt want to disturb our "hard working" policemen who must be on their 24hr break at Starbucks, no that's closed now...Im sure you find them grabbing another donut at 7-eleven.
What they should be doing is spending all that energy and OT pay catching the criminals breaking into all homes in our city. Ohh yea havent seen that atricle... Riiiight. Ask anyone in EPA if they know or if their home was has been stolen. 99.9% will say yes. And yes the police don't care and absolutely NOTHING has been done.
