A construction worker who died after a fall at a home under construction has been identified as Jose Plancarte, 51, of East Palo Alto, according to the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office.

The fall was reported on Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 10:37 a.m. at the San Francisco residence at 40 Edgehill Way, where contractors were building a new three-story home. Plancarte was working on some scaffolding near an unfinished stairwell at the time of the fall, San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

The other workers hadn't seen Plancarte for about 10 minutes, so they went looking and found him lying on the concrete below, Talmadge said. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Plancarte fell a distance of between 12 and 35 feet, she said.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is investigating the death and will provide a final report on the case within six months, Cal/OSHA spokesman Greg Siggins said.

The construction company listed on the city building permit is Versaggi Construction. No one from the Sonoma-based firm has been available to comment on the incident.
