A sobriety and drivers license checkpoint will be conducted by the East Palo Alto Police Department on Friday, Dec. 28, at University Avenue and Bay Road, the department has announced. It will begin at 9 p.m. and is expected to last until between 1 and 3 a.m.
Drivers traveling through the checkpoint will be checked by uniformed police officers for alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check to make sure all drivers have a valid driver's license.
Police are conducting the checkpoint to improve public safety, increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and to create a deterrent of potential impaired and unlicensed drivers, the department said. The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition?
