Holiday Concert: Mary McLaughlin
Celtic singer and songwriter Mary McLaughlin will perform with harp work of Steve Coulter for a concert of authentic Celtic music, steeped in the Gaelic traditions of Ireland. She will play tomorrow, Dec. 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Portola Valley Library, 765 Portola Road, Portola Valley. smcl.org.

Stanford Theatre: "The Amazing Mrs. Holliday"
Stanford Theatre will play "The Amazing Mrs. Holliday," a 1943 film about a missionary who tries to outsmart the U.S. government and smuggle Chinese orphans into the country. The film will show as part of the theater's Deanna Durbin festival. It will play at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 18, at the Stanford Theatre, 221 University Ave., Palo Alto. Tickets are $7. who in the world was deanna durbin in the movies? who decides on the schedule at the stanford theatre? these look like good events to go to. there needs to be more explanations about why people should attend these events. are these blasts from the past, or what?
