Police arrest man for downtown burglary

Bookmark and Share
Palo Alto police arrested a man for residential burglary and prowling late Saturday, Dec. 8, in the 300 block of Emerson Street.

Police responded to a call from a resident of a downtown fourplex, who reported seeing a trespasser in his yard.

After conducting a search of the area with the help of a canine unit from the Los Altos Police Department, police located a man in an adjacent yard.

Although he originally lied about his identity, police identified him as 49-year-old Jose Aldan Castro, who is on parole from a felony marijuana sales conviction.

Police found that the basement door of the fourplex had been opened and that property belonging to the residents had been rummaged through. None of the property was missing.

Police found on Castro a canister of tear gas for personal defense, which is illegal for parolees to possess, and two social security cards, a certificate of title for a vehicle and a personal check made out to a third party. None of the items were in his name.

Castro was booked for felony burglary and misdemeanors for prowling, possession of tear gas and providing false information to a peace officer. Additionally, he is being charged with a felony parole violation.
