 | Three members of the Menlo College men's and women's soccer teams have received All-American recognition for the 2012 season.
Junior Andrew Cota and senior Eric Angell both were tabbed as NAIA All-American Honorable Mention selection after the dynamic duo enjoyed stellar 2012 campaigns for the Oaks.
Cota recently was recognized as the California Pacific Conference Player of the Year in his first season in Menlo blue and white, as the Santa Clara native led the conference with 19 goals and was held scoreless in just four of the Oaks 18 tilts this season.
Angell made his presence known on the defensive side of things in 2012, earning the Cal Pac's Defensive Player of the Year Award. The Redwood City native played a pivotal role in Menlo's back line of the defense, while also finding the back of the net four times and chipping in with three assists to roll of a solid 11-point season.
The Oaks finished the year 13-4-3, going undefeated in conference for the second consecutive season en route to the Cal Pac North title. Menlo finished one match away from a repeat trip to the NAIA National Championship, losing 2-0 to Embry-Riddle in the conference championship.
Menlo junior Natalie Ingram also was honored as an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, officially closing the door on her first season at Menlo.
Ingram recently was recognized as the California Pacific Conference Newcomer of the Year in addition to a spot on the all-conference first team. The Santa Clara native's 16 goals and 37 points topped the conference, while her five assists were good enough for second overall.
The Lady Oaks finished the year with a 12-6 overall record; two more wins than the team had in the previous two seasons combined. Menlo ended its campaign with a 2-1 loss to William Jessup University in the Cal Pac Conference Postseason Tournament semifinals.
Women's basketball
Averaging 22.3 points in three wins, including a road victory at NCAA D-II member Dominican University, Jolise Limcaco of Menlo College is the Cal Pac women's basketball player of the week.
The 5-foot-6 sophomore guard from Sacramento pumped in 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field as the Oaks blasted Dominican, 83-63. Limcaco then scored 20 points in back-to-back home wins over Johnson & Wales (96-67) and Cal State San Marcos (71-55), while shooting a blistering 65.8 percent from the field, including making 9-of-17 from beyond the arc. She also pulled down 4.3 rebounds per game in the three wins and dished out 19 assists (6.3 per game).
Menlo is enjoying an 8-0 start to the season, and Limcaco leads the team with 18.5 points a game.
