The Palo Alto Knights' Jr. Midgets extended their season for one more game following a 16-14 win over the Detroit Dolphins in the consolation semifinals of the American Youth Football National Championships on Tuesday in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Knights will play for third place in the National Division on Thursday against the Detroit Falcons.

"We defeated a great athletic team today," said Palo Alto coach Mike Piha.

The Dolphins scored first on a 27-yard run and ran in the extra point for an 8-0 lead. The Knights had a 68-yard drive and scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone by Garret Gavello after Jordan Schilling's eight-yard run.

The Dolphins scored on a 53-yard pass to go ahead 14-8.

In the third quarter, the Knights had a 10-minute drive before scoring on a one-yard dive by Sione Lutu with a second extra point (two points) kicked by Luca Zaharias for a 16-14 lead.

The Knights' defense stopped the Dolphins' threats in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.
