A tree glows in Lytton

 | Palo Alto ushered in the holiday season Friday with a Holiday Tree Lighting event in the city's most prominent downtown plaza.
The second annual event was held at Lytton Plaza and featured music from the Cantabile Children's Chorus and the Keys School Chorus.
Residents were urged to bring donations of warm blankets, coats and gift cards for groceries to the plaza, with items collected by the Opportunity Center and the Downtown Streets Team.
Vice Mayor Greg Scharff flipped the switch at 5:30 p.m. to light the city's decorated tree.

Posted by LVK, a resident of the Professorville neighborhood, on Dec 4, 2012 at 12:06 pm Living at the Opportunity Center has been a blessing. And starting on the Downtown Street Team also was. However, as a former "street person", I still have needs but have a very limited income. So, this collection comes in handy for me and others.

"Christmas" trees, despite that moniker, are arguably NOT Christian. Many non-Christians have them - atheists, agnostics, Pagans, those w/no religious afiliation.

Posted by Outside Observer, a resident of another community, on Dec 4, 2012 at 7:14 pm In Hong Kong Christmas is celebrated as a "Commercial Holiday". At least they are honest about it's true nature.
It's got nothing to do with any religion, and hasn't for decades.
