Sacred Heart Prep water polo players Bret Hinrichs and Bridgette Harper, who helped their respective teams successfully defend their Central Coast Section titles, made their college choices this week.

Hinrichs has been accepted into the class of 2017 and will play water polo for the Princeton Tigers.

"I am extremely honored to be admitted to the class of 2017 at Princeton University," said Hinrichs. "It has always been my goal to attend Princeton and play water polo for Coach Luis Nicalo. Princeton offers the perfect blend of academics and athletics and I can't wait to get started."

Hinrichs was a First-Team All-CCS Division II selection this fall and was honorable mention selection in 2011. He was also an all-league selection for the WCAL in 2011 and 2012.

He also was instrumental in leading the Gators to consecutive WCAL and CCS D-II championships in 2011 and 2012. Hinrichs will join two former Gators on the Princeton roster, Connor Still ('09) and Ben Dearborn ('09).

"Bret is a great athlete with exceptional swim speed," said SHP coach Brian Kreutzkamp. "I am extremely proud that he has been accepted to Princeton and will be representing our program at the collegiate level. I expect him to make an immediate impact at Princeton."

Harper, meanwhile, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play water polo at the University of California, San Diego.

The center defender was a part of four consecutive CCS Division II championship teams and played an integral role in SHP's current season success.

"Bridgette embodies what we ask of all of our athletes: commitment, effort, and teamwork," said SHP coach Jon Burke. "She possesses all of these characteristics. She has not only been successful in her individual performances over the years, but in her team leadership as well. We are so excited to see her move on to collegiate level of play and we look forward to seeing her represent the Tritons next year."

Football
Dan Navarro has resigned as head coach at Gunn following two seasons and an 11-8 record. Navarro coached the Titans to a 7-3 overall record this season and a tri-championship in the SCVAL El Camino Division.

Girls' volleyball
Tracie Meskell has stepped down as head coach at Castilleja following her 10th season. She guided the Gators to the CIF Division V state championship in 2008 and state runner-up finishes in 2005 and '06.
