The Palo Alto High football team saw its season end two weeks ago in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs, but one former member of the team is still playing into the postseason.

Davante Adams, who played on the Vikings' 2010 CIF Division I state championship team, has found himself a home at Fresno State. This past Saturday, Adams helped the Bulldogs romp to a 48-15 victory over visiting Air Force and clinch no worse than a share of the Mountain West Conference championship.

Adams, a redshirt freshman, caught nine passes for 141 yards and touchdowns of 64 and 24 yards as Fresno State improved to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in its first season in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs finished tied for first with San Diego State, with Boise State (6-1, 9-2) likely making it a three-way tie with a win over Nevada this weekend.

The championship is the first for Adams since his Paly days.

"It's great," Adams said of the title."Coming in, this was my first year playing and I can't ask for much more. We started pretty fast and things were just happening. Coach told me I was going to be a big part of the offense and I wasn't nervous, but I was just getting some jitters about it. Once we got the first game out of the way it was awesome and it was a great feeling.

"I had a sick to my stomach feeling at first, just being nervous, but once I got into the groove of things it was just great. Finishing the season off like this, you really can't ask for more as a redshirt freshman."

In 12 games, Adams has 89 receptions for 1,168 yards and 13 touchdowns. He's averaging 13.1 yards per catch and 97.3 receiving yards per game. Adams is tied for ninth in the nation for catches and ranks No. 11 nationally in receiving yards among Division I players. His longest TD catch of 89 yard ranks No. 2 in the country among the nation's top 40 receivers. And he's not done yet.

According to the Fresno Bee, the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl is interested in grabbing Boise State for its game, which leaves Fresno State likely heading to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24. Southern Methodist (5-3, 6-6), from the Conference USA, already fills one half of the Hawaii Bowl matchup.

Adams, who was recruited by Cal, Hawaii and San Diego State, earlier this season caught 12 passes to set a Mountain West single-game record for most receptions by a freshman. He also was the first freshman in school history to have a 100-yard receiving day in his first career game.
