Stanford head coach Jason Borrelli and his staff have signed five promising high school seniors to wrestle for the Cardinal next year. The class has combined to win six high school state championships.

The Cardinal class of 2017 includes Nathan Butler (Leavenworth, Kan.), Garet Krohn (Arvada, Colo.), Tommy Pawelski (Lombard, Ill.), Connor Schram (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Keaton Subjeck (El Dorado Hills, Calif.).

"To say the least, I am thrilled with this year's recruiting class," said Borrelli. "Although it is smaller than usual, we filled some huge weight-class needs. All five wrestlers bring with them a long list of high school accolades and will battle for starting spots as true freshmen next fall."

Butler is a two-time Kansas state champion and a three-time state placer out of Leavenworth High School. He is rated as the No. 7 recruit in the nation at 285 pounds by FloWrestling and No. 8 by InterMat. A 2012 FILA Cadet freestyle national champion, Butler is a two-time Brute national champion and a three-time junior Freestyle and Greco state champion. He will add depth to the Cardinal heavyweights next season.

A standout at Arvada High School, Krohn is a two-time Colorado state champion and the No. 33 overall recruit by FloWrestling and ranked No. 42 overall by InterMat. He holds a 91-9 overall high school record and is listed as the nation's No. 6 recruit at 182 pounds by InterMat and No. 7 at 195 pounds by FloWrestling. Krohn is a two-time All-American and the 2012 NHSCA junior national runner-up. He will compete for time at 184 or 197 pounds next fall.

Pawelski, out of Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Ill., is an Illinois state champion and two-time state medalist. His high school squad has won three straight Illinois dual team state titles and is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation by InterMat. A two-time junior freestyle state champion, Pawelski won the 2011 Cadet Greco Pan American Games and finished as the freestyle runner-up. He will add depth to the roster at 125 pounds next season.

Schram is the No. 3 ranked senior at 126 pounds by FloWrestling and No. 4 by InterMat out of Canon-McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Pa. A Pennsylvania state champion, Schram is also a three-time state finalist and the No. 21 overall recruit nationally (FloWrestling). He holds a 114-7 overall high school record and was a Fargo Junior Freestyle All-American in 2012. His high school team won the 2012 Pennsylvania dual team state title and is ranked No. 6 in the nation by InterMat this season. Schram will push for time in the Cardinal line-up at 133 pounds next season.

Ranked No. 17 in the nation at 170 pounds by InterMat, Subjeck is the sixth overall prospect in California by CalGrappler. He is a two-time California state medalist for Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, Calif. He is also a three-time league champion and a two-time divisional champion. He will compete for time in the Cardinal line-up at 174 pounds.

"Each have won at the highest levels in high school and we expect them to carry on with that success in college," stated Borrelli. "I am super excited for the future of the Stanford wrestling program, and these five guys will play a pivotal role in our success moving forward."
