Two men were robbed at gunpoint Monday morning, Nov. 19, at Foothill College, a campus spokesman said. According to law enforcement officials, no one was hurt during the robbery.
The robbery occurred at about 9 a.m. when a man approached two other men, brandished a handgun and then made off with their backpacks, according to Kurt Hueg, associate vice president of external relations at Foothill.
A Foothill press release describes the robber as a black man, about 18-25 years old, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and perhaps 160 pounds. His hair was black and cropped close. He did not have any facial hair and was not wearing any jewelry, according to the two victims.
The robber was last seen running up from the footbridge onto campus with the two victims' black backpacks, the release said. The authorities are currently working on a sketch of the suspect. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Studants, and the public, have a right to better security than they are getting. It's only a matter of time before people start suing deep-pocket parties for compensation because of inadequate security. In the case of Foothill, it's the taxpayers' money--so all of us will end up paying for incompetent management/administration of these public spaces.

Posted by Chief Ron Levine, a resident of Los Altos Hills, on Nov 22, 2012 at 12:54 am Wonder - Unfortunately budget issues have prevented the college district from installing surveillance cameras in many public areas on campus. We do have a Security Master Plan that does include the deployment of cameras in a number of public areas.
Carol - The main station of the Foothill - De Anza CCD Police Department is at Foothill, in the Campus Center. I think everyone is aware that the police cannot be in all places at all times. Our officer was on-scene quickly after the crime was reported to our Department.
Aggressive - Yes, this was a very bold crime for the location and time of day. This was the first armed robbery on the Foothill campus in the nine years I have been with the Police Department.
