Music: Yemen Blues
The blues-jazz-funk group Yemen Blues, led by Israeli singer Ravid Kahalani and New York bass player and composer Omer Avital, plays the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. The group's sound mixes traditional Yemenite melodies with West African soul and other genres. The center is at 3921 Fabian Way in Palo Alto. Advance tickets are $45 general, $40 for JCC members and $37 for residents of the center's Moldaw complex. Go to paloaltojcc.org.
Music: Palo Alto Philharmonic chamber concert
Samuel Barber's "Knoxville, Summer of 1915" is on the program with Mozart for the Palo Alto Philharmonic's first chamber concert of the season. The ensemble plans to play Amadeus' Flute Quartet in D Major, K. 285; and his Quintet for Piano and Winds, K. 452. The performance is set for 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at First Baptist Church at 305 N. California Ave. in Palo Alto. Admission is $20 general, $17 for seniors and $10 for students. Go to paphil.org.
Talk: 'History Endangered'
Weekly publisher Bill Johnson will give a free talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, on "History Endangered: When Newspapers Are Gone, How Will Local History Be Written."
