Mango, Wilson each win wrestling titles

 | Senior Ryan Mango and true freshman Jim Wilson captured tournament titles Saturday at the Roadrunner Open at Selland Arena in Fresno. Seventeen other Cardinal wrestlers were also in action.
Mango, who is utilizing his redshirt season, competed unattached and dominated his competition at 133 pounds. He recorded two falls and two major decisions to advance to the championship bout. There, he posted an 18-3 technical fall over Ian Nickell to win the tournament.
At 165 pounds, Wilson went 5-0, also wrestling unattached. Among his wins was an 11-1 major decision over James Chou and a fall in 4:00 over Cal Poly's Connor King. In the championship match, Wilson recorded a 2-0 decision over Navy's Peyton Walsh.
Redshirt freshman Michael Sojka and junior Dan Schererwere the runners-up at 197 pounds and heavyweight, respectively. Sojka was 3-1 overall, picking up three wins by decision. Scherer was also 3-1, including a fall in 3:39 over Brandon Sotomayor and a decision over Cal Poly's Atticus Disney.
True freshman Zach Nevills finished third at 174 pounds. The Clovis, Calif., native went 4-1 and picked up an 8-0 major decision over fellow Cardinal rookie Dylan Morris and an 8-3 decision against Stanford freshman Thomas Kimbrell, who placed fourth overall
Redshirt freshman Evan Silver (125 pounds), true freshman Matt Garelli (141 pounds), senior Timmy Boone(149 pounds), Morris (174 pounds) and freshman Josh Marchok (heavyweight) all finished in the Top 6.— Stanford Athletics Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition?
