Research scholar Chet Van Duzer will give a free talk from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today, Nov. 12, on his new book, "Seeing the World Anew: The Radical Vision of Martin Waldseemuller's 1507 and 1516 World Maps," about two maps of the "New World," America. The rare maps have been described as cartographic treasures of the Library of Congress. The event will be in the Bender Room of Green Library at Stanford University. Colorful shadow boxes with puppets, created by artist and San Jose State University teacher Raquel Coelho as illustrations for her children's books about animation and music, are currently on display in the Mohr Gallery at the Community School of Music and Arts through Nov. 25. The school is at 230 San Antonio Circle in Mountain View; the gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 3.
