 | The Stanford field hockey team wasn't ready to end its season just yet.
Hope Burke scored twice and Becky Dru had a goal and two assists as the 11th-ranked Cardinal beat host Miami (Ohio), 4-1, Tuesday in an NCAA Play-In game.
Stanford (16-6) qualified for its fifth NCAA appearance in the last six years and will find out who and where it plays later this afternoon. The selection show is at 5 p.m.
The Cardinal will be making its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and is seeking its first postseason victory.
Riding a season-high seven-game winning streak, Stanford is playing its best at the most important time of the year. The Cardinal qualified for Tuesday's NCAA Play-In game after capturing its fifth NorPac Championship title in six years during a dominating three-day stretch.
Olivia Miller's unassisted goal in the fourth minute put Miami in front, 1-0. Stanford countered with four unanswered goals to build a 4-1 halftime lead and ultimately put the game out of reach. The RedHawks (12-10) would not threaten the rest of the way.
Stanford beat Miami, 3-0, earlier in the season.
Men's golf
Stanford remained in second place at the Gifford Intercollegiate Golf Championship at CordeValle in San Martin after a second-round 355. The Cardinal fired an opening-round 353 and is 2-under for the tournament, trailing first-place UCLA by nine strokes.
Cameron Wilson maintained a firm grip on first place after a record-setting opening-round 61. The junior carded a second-day 74 and holds a two-stroke lead over Tennessee's Rick Lamb and UCLA's Pontus Widegren.
Stanford's Patrick Rodgers and Menlo School grad Patrick Grimes, the latter competing as an individual, are tied for ninth. Rodgers started his round with three bogeys in the first four holes. He rebounded with a string of 10 consecutive pars before making four birdies to close out the round. Grimes eagled the sixth hole and made three birdies over the next six holes on his way to a 66, the low score for the day.
Cardinal freshmen Dominick Francks and David Boote are tied for 14th, 1-over par. Both golfers improved on their opening-round scores, Francks by five strokes (74-69) and Boote by one (72-71).
Stanford's Shane Lebow is tied for 50th after rounds of 79-71 (150) and Steve Kearney is tied for 54th after shooting 74-77 (151).
Wrestling
Nick Amuchastegui has been announced as one of 10 student-athletes who will be honored in January 2013 as Today's Top 10 Award winners.
The NCAA Today's Top 10 Award recognizes student-athletes who completed their athletics eligibility during the 2011-12 academic year for their success during competition, in the classroom and within the community.
