Woman steals purse, spends $2,000 at Nordstrom
Thief swipes leather purse from office on Lytton Avenue

Bookmark and Share
A woman walked into a downtown Palo Alto office building, stole a change purse from a desk drawer and promptly went on a $2,000 shopping spree at Nordstrom, a Palo Alto police spokesman said.

The woman entered the office at 379 Lytton Ave. at about 2:47 p.m. And took the leather change purse from a desk drawer. Employees saw her wandering around the building's first floor, but no one knew her, police said. She ran from the building, but her image was recorded on a surveillance camera.

The thief then used a credit card from the purse at Nordstrom at Stanford Shopping Center, racking up a $2,000 tab, police said.

She is described as a black adult of undetermined age, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. She had red braids and wore a khaki-colored shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Palo Alto Police Department 24-hour dispatch line at 650-329-2413.

If it weren't so shocking it would be funny. I suppose if I sudenly came into free money, the first place I would go to is Nordy's.

My picture is on the front of my credit card. Good deterrent.

This happens in offices more than you might think. People need to be more proactive in their own surroundings.

Even at Nordy's, she would have to be vigilant and buy things on sale!

This fits the description of the thief who stole my wallet out of my purse while I was eating at Siam Royal 2 weeks ago, then went on a several thousand dollar shopping spree at Target & Walmart. Note: She was able to use my credit cards despite my picture being on 2 of the cards, and despite her large purchases. NOTHING can prevent a thief from using your credit cards - not a picture on the card, not a note for the cashier to check ID - if the cashier doesn't even look at the card, and it seems that increasingly cashiers are not being required to do so!
