Williams, Ajanaku go on a volleyball hitting spree

Junior outside hitter Rachel Williams recorded 13 kills and a career-high .684 hitting percentage as the Stanford women's volleyball team remained undefeated in the Pac-12 Conference following a 25-15, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20 victory over visiting Arizona State in Friday night.

The second-ranked Cardinal (12-0, 20-2) travel to Oregon State and second-place Oregon next weekend in another of a series of crucial weekends for Stanford.

Freshmen Jordan Burgess and Brittany Howard each recorded a double-double while junior Carly Wopat reached a milestone while helping Stanford win its 18th consecutive match.

Burgess had 12 kills and 17 digs and Howard added 10 kills and 14 digs. Wopat had seven kills and four blocks, including the 400th of her career.

Freshman Inky Ajanaku added 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .556 while the dynamic setting duo of senior Karissa Cook and freshman Madi Bugg combined for 50 assists and 16 digs. Sophomore libero Kyle Gilbert had 19 digs.

Stanford set the tone in the first set victory, hitting .472 while holding the Sun Devils to a .175 attack percentage. Ajanaku slammed home all five of her first-set attempts and Burgess added four kills, seven digs and a solo block.

After a setback in the second set, the Cardinal returned to business to finish the match on a good note.
