Ajanaku sets tone early in Stanford volleyball win

Freshman Inky Ajanaku recorded 11 kills as the Stanford women's volleyball team spread the wealth around in beating visiting Arizona, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20, on Wednesday night in a Pac-12 Conference match.

Junior Carly Wopat and freshman Jordan Burgess each added nine kills and junior Rachel Williams added eight kills and five blocks as the second-ranked Cardinal (11-0, 19-2) opened the second half of Pac-12 play with its 17th consecutive victory.

Ajanaku also had four blocks and a hitting percentage of .526 as Stanford outhit the Wildcats, .292 to .130. Burgess added 12 digs and Williams recorded a season-best .412 hitting percentage.

Setters Karissa Cook and Madi Bugg combined for 40 assists and 16 digs for the Cardinal, which hosts Arizona State on Friday night at 7 p.m. before going on the road to meet Oregon State and current second-place Oregon.

Ajanaku had seven of her kills and three of her blocks in the first set to pave the way for the sweep. The Cardinal hit .394 and limited the Wildcats to a .161 clip.
