Police arrest transient for attempted robbery

A Sunnyvale man was arrested for an attempted robbery in downtown Palo Alto on Saturday, Oct. 13, after he repeatedly struck the victim in the face after demanding money.
Palo Alto police responded to a call of a fight in progress at about 4:24 p.m. in the 200 block of University Avenue between Emerson and Ramona streets. The victim, a man, told police he was assaulted after refusing to hand over his money. The perpetrator, identified by police as Jesus Gabriel Cruz, 25, a transient, left the scene after punching the victim several times.
Police located Cruz downtown and attempted to detain him. He resisted arrest and made direct threats to the officers, police spokesman Sgt. Sal Madrigal said.
Cruz was arrested on charges of attempted robbery and resisting and deterring an officer -- both felonies. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose. Posted by Ray, a resident of East Palo Alto, on Oct 16, 2012 at 12:30 pm I love how someone called in to report a 'fight' while the guy was being robbed. He's lucky the Police didn't shoot him while mistaking him for a 'perpetrator'.

It is the almost "free meal ticket" Palo Alto affords and the easy pickens they get from panhandling that draws the transients here. Not some building that John Arrilaga is going to build, someday. Stop by the train station/bus hub behing MacArthur Park and watch them offload. In the "old"days, the Urban Ministry gave them a free meal back by the Red Cross building; and then they would walk out to the median of El Camino to panhandle; after getting a few bucks they migrate to downtown PA; Walgreens/7 Eleven to buy some cheap booze. How does John Arrillaga fit into this picture? I don't see these people over /outside the gyms/facilities he built in Menlo Park; I see the community using these wonderful facilities he generously donated.

As a former resident of the great city of Sunnyvale, I resent the several times I have seen someone listed as a "Sunnyvale man," like in this place and also another time, for example, a guy did death by cop and he was from Palo Alto, raised there, and had only lived briefly in Sunnyvale, yet was described as "Sunnyvale man."
I think there ARE a lot of problems/crime with transients and Palo Alto has gone out of the way to attract them, a plan I feel has brought trouble here.
