No luck for Luck as Colts fall to the Jets
|
Andrew Luck had the stats but not the win as the Indianapolis Colts dropped a 35-9 decision to the host New York Jets on Sunday in National Football League action.
Luck threw for 280 yards, but completed only 22 of 44 passes and failed to get the Colts into the end zone. Four of his passes went to former Stanford teammate Coby Fleener for 42 yards.
The Colts managed just 41 yards on 17 carries, thus forcing Luck to take to the air. The Jets, meanwhile, gained 252 yards on the ground.
Elsewhere, former Stanford wideout Doug Baldwin caught a 24-yard touchdown pass and finished with two receptions for 74 yards as the Seattle Seahawks defeated visiting New England, 24-23.
Baldwin will return to the Bay Area this week as the Seahawks face the San Francisco 49ers in a Thursday night game at Candlestick Park. Joining him will be defensive back Richard Sherman, the former Cardinal standout. He had an interception in the third quarter.
In Washington, former Stanford running back Toby Gerhart had one carry for just one yard and caught two passes for 10 yards as the Minnesota Vikings fell to the Redskins, 38-26.
Men's golf
Stanford grad Zack Miller shot a final round of 68 for a 273 total and finished tied for 11th at the PGA-Fry's.com Open on Sunday at CordeValle Golf Course in San Martin. Miller earned $106,000 for his four-day effort, which resulted in his first top-40 finish in 24 starts this season. — Palo Alto Online Sports Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition?
