The Iranian-born author Rahimeh Andalibian will do a free reading and book signing at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 17, at the Stanford Bookstore of "The Rose Hotel," which is billed as a "true-life novel." The book centers on her Iranian Muslim family as it gets caught up in crime and revolution. The store is at 519 Lasuen Mall on campus. Go to events.stanford.edu.
Lecture: 'Finding the Next Earth: The Latest Results from Kepler'
Natalie Batalha, mission scientist for NASA's Kepler Project, will give a free "illustrated, non-technical" lecture on the work of the Kepler team to identify Earth-size planets. The 7 p.m. talk is tomorrow, Oct. 17, at Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Batalha, a research astronomer at NASA Ames Research Center, has a doctorate in astrophysics from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
