Stanford grad Nnemkadi Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks was named Rookie of the Year in the WNBA on Sunday, but she might have preferred something else.

The league award was announced before Sunday's playoff matchup between the Sparks and visiting Minnesota Lynx in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals.

Ogwumike, however, managed only 11 points and grabbed as the Sparks dropped an 80-79 decision. The defending champion Lynx swept the two-game series now advance to the finals and will face wither Connecticut or Indiana, which has Stanford grad Jeanette Pohlen on its roster.

Ogwumike averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds during the regular season.

Candace Parker had put the Sparks on top with a three-pointer before Lynx reserve Monica Wright answered Parker's shot with her own 3-pointer to put the Lynx back in front, 80-79. She single-handedly outscored the Sparks' bench, 8-0. Stanford grad Candice Wiggins played 7 1/2 minutes for Minnesota, but did not score.

Basketball
Priory grad Greg Somogyi made his preseason debut with the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday during a 110-93 win by the Golden State Warriors in Fresno.
The 7-foot-2 Somogyi played 15 minutes and scored five points while grabbing six rebounds. He had four personal fouls but only one turnover.

Football
Stanford grad Andrew Luck threw a four-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds left to lift the host Indianapolis Colts to a 30-27 victory over Green Bay on Sunday.

Luck completed 31 of 55 passes for a (NFL) career-high 362 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a score. His four-yard TD pass to Reggie Wayne moved the Colts to 2-2. Luck's 362 passing yards was the second-best effort on Sunday.

In Minnesota, Stanford grad Toby Gerhart carried six times for 41 yards in the Vikings' 30-7 victory over Tennessee.

Elsewhere, Stanford grad Doug Baldwin had three catches for 37 yards for Seattle in a 16-12 win over the Carolina Panthers.
