More PG&E construction changes in Palo Alto
Traffic impacts along Miranda Avenue; Gunn students, families forewarned
|
Pacific Gas & Electric has again changed its pipeline-replacement work schedule along Foothill Expressway and Junipero Serra Boulevard, which could have significant impacts on traffic, City of Palo Alto Utilities spokeswoman Debra Katz said.
PG&E contractors will work during daytime hours while they replace gas-transmission pipeline No. 109 on Foothill Expressway/Junipero Serra between Page Mill Road and East Campus Drive. Line 109 runs through Palo Alto, Stanford and Menlo Park.
The portion in Palo Alto runs next to Foothill Expressway (Miranda Avenue) in front of the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System and the University and Foothill clubs, and merges onto Foothill Expressway, continuing up to Page Mill.
There will likely be traffic delays to Palo Alto commuters headed northbound on Foothill Expressway. Commuters and nearby residents could experience gas smells and noise.
Gunn High School students and parents should not use the Miranda bus stop area for drop offs, Katz said. Parking will not be allowed and traffic flow down Miranda will be slowed.
Pipeline construction on the Palo Alto portion is expected to start at the end of September. The current plan is to conduct daytime work Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., just east of Hillview Avenue at 3351 Miranda Ave., which is next to the entrance of the Foothills Tennis and Swimming Club, and proceed eastward across Hillview Avenue ending just past the VA hospital property.
Night work would take place during the same period just west of 3351 Miranda Ave. and would proceed westward. Additional night work will take place from East Campus Drive west to Alpine Road between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
A map of the impacted areas can be found here.
