Stanford, Allen twins hope basketball gamble pays off

A couple of high school basketball players from Las Vegas rolled the dice and it came up Stanford.

Cardinal coach Johnny Dawkins scored a deuce when he received verbal commitments from Marcus Allen and Malcolm Allen, a set of pretty sharp-looking guards, on Sunday.

The Allen twins may not be as big and tall as the Lopez or Collins' twins, but they are quicker and most certainly will impact the Stanford program as much.

Stanford may be the lucky place for twins to attend, as both Collins brothers and Lopez brothers made it into the NBA.

The spoke with thebootleg's Josh Gershon:

"I just thought Stanford was a good situation," Marcus said. "They're way up there academically, which Malcolm and I take a lot of pride in, and they play in the Pac-12, which is a good opportunity for both of us."

"I love it up there," added Malcolm. "It's perfect weather, the campus is nice, the players there are great, it's one of the best academic schools in the world, it's the Pac-12, and they're coming up in basketball."

In August, Marcus Allen was named the No. 1 point guard on the West Coast by scout.com.

"Allen is not a true point guard, but he can defend the one and he's a terrific athlete and talented scorer," Scout.com's Greg Hicks wrote. "While he played off the ball a lot in the summer, he made enough point guard type plays that demonstrated his ability to play the position at the next level."

Malcolm Allen was named the No. 7 point guard on the West Coast.

Will the twins be playing for Stanford this academic year or next year?
