 | Senior captain Mariah Nogueira headed in two goals to lead the fifth-ranked Stanford women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over visiting No. 23 Georgetown, allowing the Cardinal to win the four-team Stanford Nike Invitational on Sunday and extend its home unbeaten streak to 58.
Stanford (4-1-1) scored four goals off set pieces, beginning with Nogueira's header off Rachel Quon's free kick in the 12th minute. The goal sparked a Stanford run of three goals in 22 minutes, and the Cardinal followed with another flurry, of three in 17 minutes of the second half.
Five different players scored, including sophomore midfielder Lo'eau LaBonta, for her first collegiate goal while making her second start. Also scoring were Alina Garciamendez, Natalie Griffen, and Sydney Payne. Nogueira and Griffen share the team scoring lead, each with four.
Georgetown (6-1-1) entered the match unbeaten and having outscored its opponents, 17-3. But Stanford kept the pressure up defensively, forcing turnovers, dominating possession, and attacking often. The Cardinal outshot Georgetown 22-4 and forced eight saves from Hoya goalkeepers.
Stanford went 2-0 to win the 18th annual tournament to edge Santa Clara (1-0-1), which beat visiting Boston University, 1-0, in the other contest Sunday.
Stanford resumes play against No. 20 San Diego State (7-0) on Friday at the Santa Clara Classic and expects to have Chioma Ubogagu available.
The sophomore forward missed Stanford's first six matches while in Japan playing for the victorious United States at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, which concluded Saturday with a 1-0 U.S. victory over Germany.

Katie Mitchell scored with just over nine minutes remaining to lift No. 11 Stanford past visiting No. 18 Drexel, 2-1, on Sunday in a nonconference match.
Courtney Haldeman also scored for the Cardinal (5-3), which won its fourth consecutive since losing three straight.
Stanford has split its four games against nationally-ranked opponents after winning its second straight against a Top 20 foe.
"I think our team is showing growth, trying to improve their game as individuals and learning from mistakes," Stanford coach Tara Danielson said. "We had to mix some things up today and test our depth. Drexel is a good, feisty team with a strong presence on the ball. I thought we did a good job of handling that and showing resolve."
The Cardinal takes some time off before hitting the road for a pair of matches in Chapel Hill against Radford and North Carolina Sept. 22-23.
Haldeman gave the Cardinal the early lead at 12:28 of the first half. She found an opening during a scrum in front of the net.
The Dragons tied the score midway through the second half before Mitchell took a corner from Becky Dru and got by a defender for the go-ahead score.
Dulcie Davies was outstanding in goal, denying a few point-blank attempts while making five saves.
Stanford was without the services of regular starters Kelsey Harbin and Maddie Secco, with both players missing the next two games, and three overall, as they participate in the Junior Pan American Championships, set for Sept. 10-23.
Harbin is a member of the U.S. team while Secco has a spot on Canada's roster. — Palo Alto Online Sports/Stanford Athletics Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
