Stanford sophomore Chioma Ubogagu wasn't able to enjoy Saturday's celebration of last year's NCAA title at halftime of the Stanford-Duke football game.
She was, however, able to celebrate the United States Under-20 Women's World Cup title on the other side of the world as the Americans nudged Germany, 1-0, in the championship match in Toyko on Saturday.
Kealia Ohai scored the game's only goal in the 44th minute, and Ubogagu played the final 30 minutes for the U.S.
Team USA won its third consecutive U-20 World Cup and made up for its 3-0 loss to Germany in pool play. The Germans also saw their string of 11 straight wins in the U-20 Women's World Cup come to an end.
Germany, which has two U-20 world championships in the books, finished with a 17-9 edge in shots and 12-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The match was seen by a crowd of 31,114.Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
