A suspect in multiple armed robberies was arrested Thursday evening, Aug. 16, after a standoff outside a North Fair Oaks home that lasted nearly 10 hours.

Miguel Angel Caballero, 30, is a suspect in as many as five armed robberies at businesses in the Redwood City area since Aug. 7.

Investigators said that numerous tips came in following the release on Wednesday of video surveillance and photographs that clearly captured images of Caballero at the businesses while they were being robbed.

Lt. Larry Schumaker of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said officers arrived at Caballero's residence on Williams Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Lt. Schumaker said that Caballero came out of the front of his house at some point Thursday morning but quickly went back inside when he saw police.

A SWAT team surrounded the beige single-story house in the residential neighborhood. SWAT officers wearing camouflage gear and bulletproof vests could be seen on nearby rooftops and outside the fence of the home.

During the standoff, neighbors were evacuated from nearby houses, and Caltrain service was disrupted as the house was near tracks.

Officials said that Caballero surrendered at around 6 p.m. Detectives from the Sheriff's Office and Redwood City police then searched the home where Caballero was renting a room and found evidence connecting him to the robberies.

Caballero was booked in the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of robbery.

He is believed to have robbed the Willow Market in Redwood City on Aug. 7, the Panaderia Michoacan Market in unincorporated Redwood City on Aug. 8, El Paisano Carniceria Market in unincorporated Redwood City on Aug. 9, the Valero Gas Station and Market in Redwood City on Aug. 11, and at the Mi Hacienda Taqueria in Redwood City on Aug. 14.

Now, this is non-yawn inducing news. What a loser. Apparently, Cowboy Mikey is no angel! Glad no one was hurt. He sure was peeing in his own pool.

For once the police exercised restraint. But the next news story we're going to hear is how much money and time it cost the PD to surround the house and stand by. I wonder how the guy was spending his riches.

Here's the movie plot: He bought thousands of Super Lotto tickets, and while jailed, wins $50 million. Your imagination can take it from here ....

Never mind the costings, just be grateful that this "HOOD" was taken into custody and will be tried on the charges pending. One less "Hood" off the city streets.

.... Miguel Angel Caballero

Hmmm, when I was in school taking Spanish classes they told me that caballero meant gentleman ... so it's kind of odd that this guy in particular no angel and no gentleman, isn't it?
