Young leaves position with Stanford Athletics

Senior Assistant Athletic Director/Media Relations & Communications Jim Young has apparently left his position at Stanford effective immediately.

The long-time media relations expert came to Stanford in early 2008, to replace Gary Migdol, who left to become director of communications for Stanford Hospital and Clinics.

Young has previously served in similar roles with the Oakland Athletics and Santa Clara University. He has also worked as an official scorer for Major League Baseball.

Young was at his regular post at Stanford's football practice Tuesday morning and there had been no indication a change would occur.

Young's most recent hire, Alan George, and who has been on the job as an assistant media relations for less than a month, will assume much of the football side of things.

Mike Eubanks, a Stanford grad who helped develop TheBootleg.com, will serve as the main football contact. Eubanks has been working directly with the Cardinal football program since Jim Harbaugh hired him in 2007.

The rest of the department remains unchanged through August, with other media relations assistants picking up the sports-related aspects.

Chris Hutchins, who currently serves as Stanford's Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Relations, will assume administrative duties. She originally came to Stanford as a Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics and has media relations experience.

Sam Cohn, who is an assistant communications director at Stanford, will have an increased role beginning in September. Cohn also started the company Digital Fanvantage.
