 | An out-of-control car crashed into two homes in East Palo Alto early this morning, including one where an infant was sleeping in a bassinet, East Palo Alto police said.
Officers arrived to the 2100 block of Cooley Avenue near Bell Street at about 5:15 a.m. to find a car without its occupants smashed about 1.5 feet into a converted garage where a mother and her two children were sleeping. Two to four people are thought to have fled the collision, police Sgt. David Carson said.
The vehicle struck the corner of one house and took out a retaining wall, careened off the garage and damaged a window on the home, then smashed through another retaining wall before slamming into the garage of the home next door where the family was sleeping, he said. No one was injured.
Officers searched the area but did not find the car's occupants. An investigation is ongoing, but Carson said the car was not stolen. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
