Community: Chili Cook Off
Participants celebrate the Fourth of July with a taste of red-hot chilis prepared by teams of chefs battling for the chili championship. Featuring live music, children's activities and food. Tasting starts at 1:30 p.m. Mitchell Park, 600 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto. Offsite parking at Cubberley. Shuttle service avail 12-5 p.m. For details, go to cityofpaloalto.org/recreation.

Community: Menlo Park Parade
Attendees of the Menlo Park parade can decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons, golf carts or floats and parade down Santa Cruz Avenue from the parking lot off Santa Cruz and Chestnut Street to Burgess Park. The parade starts at 11:45 a.m. on July 4th. Once at Burgess Park, there will be music, games, and food. Go to menlopark.org.

Community: Redwood City Parade
Redwood City's 74th annual Fourth of July Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Marshall and Winslow streets and ends near Alden Street. The 26th annual Independence Day Festival will also be held in Redwood City from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be arts and crafts booths, food and drinks and a kids' area. Go to parade.org.
