Music lecture: 'Everything You Wanted to Know About Jazz'
Jim Nadel, founder and director of the Stanford Jazz Festival and Workshop, will give a talk at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, June 28, that aims to demystify jazz. The event, part of the annual festival, will be in the Campbell Recital Hall at Stanford University. Musicians Leon Joyce (drums), Erik Jekabson (trumpet), Fred Harris (piano) and Seward McCain (bass) will join Nadel, who plays saxophone, in the presentation. Science: 'Modern Seafloor Mapping'
Geologist David Findlayson will give a free lecture at 7 p.m. tomorrow, June 28, about the modern sonar systems that U.S. Geological Survey scientists use to explore and document the seafloor. The event is at the USGS, 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park. Findlayson will talk about underwater features including the San Andreas Fault and sand dunes under the Golden Gate Bridge.
