Water-main break on Lytton forces evacuation
Four-story building evacuated during afternoon incident

A gushing water main caused a four-story building to be evacuated and shut down part of Lytton Avenue Tuesday afternoon, June 19, Palo Alto Fire Battalion Chief Chris Woodard said.
Road workers on Lytton struck the main at about 2:10 p.m. causing the water to rush out and flood the basement at 390 Lytton, he said.
The building had a pump, and much of the water was removed. There was no damage, but employees were evacuated, he said.
Lytton was closed at Florence and Waverley streets. City utilities employees shut the water off after 30 minutes. Fire personnel were initially concerned about a utilities vault in the building, but the Palo Alto Utilities Department checked the unit to eliminate any danger.— Sue Dremann Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? Posted by stretch, a resident of another community, on Jun 20, 2012 at 11:08 am Were these "roadworkers" contractors working for the City, City personnel, or random roadworkers? It's pretty hard to hit a water main that's buried 4 or 5 feet underground, unless you're working on something other than the road.

It could have a FLOOD down there, that would destroy a LOT of good STUFF, LIKE CARS for one, PLUS storage areas.jnqwh
