 | Menlo School grad Kenny Diekroeger hit a home run and doubled twice to support Garrett Hughes' four-hitter over five innings in Stanford's 8-3 victory over visiting Pacific in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday night.
Lonnie Kauppila added two hits and drove in two runs for the fifth-ranked Cardinal (21-7), which has won three in a row and five of six since being swept at Arizona.
Stanford hosts No. 10 Oregon in a conference series beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m. and continuing Saturday at 1 p.m. and noon Sunday.
Diekroeger improved to .336 on the season and recorded his team leading 12th and 13th double of the year. He is tied, with Stephen Piscotty, for the team lead in extra base hits with 15. Eric Smith and Brian Ragira, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, each added two hits as Stanford improved its team average to .302.
Hughes, a redshirt sophomore, earned his first career victory in his third career start, and his second against the Tigers. He allowed an unearned run, walked one, struck out one and hit a batter.
Kauppila's two-run double and Tyler Gaffney's RBI single in the fourth gave Stanford a 6-1 advantage. Diekroeger hits his second home run, a solo shot, in the fifth to make it 7-1.
