Los Altos fire causes $500,000 in damages
Firefighters douse one-alarm blaze in garage behind main house

Bookmark and Share
Santa Clara County firefighters have extinguished a one-alarm fire that caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the garage of a Los Altos home this morning, a fire official said.

Firefighters responded at 4:30 a.m. to 1504 Country Club Drive, where a 2,000-square-foot garage was on fire, Santa Clara County fire Operations Capt. Gil Smith said. About a third of the garage -- a separated structure located behind the main house -- was on fire when crews arrived, Smith said.

It took firefighters about an hour and a half to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters said the residence was being prepared to undergo remodeling and no one was home at the time. No injuries were reported.

Glad nobody was hurt. But, gee, my little house is much smaller than 2,000 square feet and my insurance replacement cost is only $350K. What the heck is in a garage that size?

I'm guessing that your neighbors don't call your house "The Castle"!

No, they sure don't. Reading your link, it seems that "carriage house" got translated to "garage" so us regular folks could understand it.

Personally, I park my carriage (Oldsmobile) on the country lane (street) next to the entry way (front yard).
