Stanford women finish fourth in national championships

 | Seniors Sam Woodward and Betsy Webb completed their Stanford swimming careers as NCAA champions. Woodward and Webb joined Andi Murez and Maddy Schaefer to win in the 400 free relay in an American (and school) record 3:10.77 in the final race of the national championships on Saturday in Auburn, Ala.
Sophomore Maya DiRado recorded a second-place finish in the 200 back as Stanford finished fourth with 318 points.
California, which features Palo Alto grads Liv Jensen and Colleen Fotsch, won its second consecutive NCAA title with 412 1/2 points.
Stanford set five school records during the three-day meet, opening the event with a school mark in the 200 free relay, swam by the same four swimmers.
In the final event, Woodward swam her way to a seven-tenths of a second lead, which was extended by Schaefer to nearly a second at the halfway point. Murez extended it to a second and a half before Webb touched the wall nearly a full second ahead of Auburn.
In the 200 back, Florida's Elizabeth Beisel took the early lead by two-tenths of a second and slowly extended it to finish with a time of 1:50.58. DiRado held off a late charging Dominique Bouch from Missouri to finish with a career-best time of 1:51.42. DiRado's time is 12th-best in NCAA history, ranking her No. 2 in the school record book.
Stanford placed four swimmers in the top 10 of the 100 free with Murez finishing seventh (47.79) followed by Schaefer (47.96) in the A Finals. Webb (47.99) beat teammate Woodward (48.08) for the consolation title.
Woodward finished as a 22-time All-American, while Webb was a 21-time All-American. DiRado enters her junior season as a nine-time All-American, followed by senior-to-be and eight-time All-American, Murez and six-time All-American Felicia Lee.
Synchronized swimming
Stanford placed fourth in the U.S. Collegiate Championships Saturday at the Stephen O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla.
Stanford recorded 66 points in the overall standings. Ohio State won the title with 93 points. Incarnate Word (88) and Lindenwood (68.5) finished second and third.
Stanford's Alex Bollaidlaw, Liane Lovitt and Koko Urata placed fourth n the trio finals with a score of 86.517. Madison Crocker and Jessica Guenther were fourth in the duet finals, scoring an 86.200. Crocker finished sixth in the solo event.
