VIDEO: Celebrating science

What a fun night! One of the things that makes the city of Palo Alto such a great, family-friendly place to live.

(Aside: I like the woman texting at 1:19, oblivious to the fact that she is being filmed. Sigh.)

So PiE sponsors any community events and doesn't just support our schools? Not that I'm complaining but it would be nice to know what you're donating to.

Dear Interesting,

Actually the reporter wasn't quite accurate. PiE didn't sponsor this event, PiE was there to join in the celebration because of the mutual interest in science. PiE helps fund science in the schools (as you likely know) but does not fund the museum. I think the reporter just got that impression - I can ask him to correct it.

If PiE was there, how come our kids were not notified? Did it go through schools?

I thought the only way we can have additional aides in the classrooms, and additional "staff" for our schools, which the district can't afford, is through PIE.

Shouldn't every penny PIE receives go directly for staffing our schools.

More counselors for example?

It's very annoying how stuff like this gets done through small print.

Hello

Just to reiterate - PiE money is not going to the Junior Museum and Zoo (JMZ); this was a mistake in the caption. PiE funds some science in the elementary schools and the JMZ does programs at the schools. This was a celebration of science for kids. All PiE funds go to schools. If you'd like to discuss this not on chat boards, contact me at tgodfrey@papie.org

Family Science Night was a lovely celebration of science education.  

ALL of the teachers' and staff's time was DONATED for the event.  I personally donated the snacks for the evening, in addition to many hours of time.  No PiE funds were used for this event.

An announcement about Family Science Night was distributed to the school enews editors throughout the district, and the principals and teachers of each PAUSD elementary were all invited.  We did our best to spread the word about this fun, free community-serving event.

It's unfortunate that there is a miscommunication in the caption.  PiE funds do not go to the zoo.

Anyone who was at Family Science Night can tell you that it was a wonderful evening of family fun generously and voluntarily organized by people who CARE DEEPLY about this community.
