Carolyn Dole: Silent Skies

Silent Skies

September eleventh airports closed
heavy rumblings of loaded aircraft
stopped passing overhead
a few from foreign ports
interrupted the welcome silence
of preflight quiet
ears and nerves resting.

A time to remember back before
man took to the skies when
only billowy clouds swept through the heavens
wafted by Eternal unseen forces
eagles and hawks soared on the thermals
silently commanding that sacred space.

Only a catastrophe could
stop civilization
plunging into the future
faster and faster
to feel fear, anger, anguish and sorrow
to reflect, be thoughtful and
turn to the Source.
